Commitment to Inclusivity

When it comes to creating websites, our team is committed to putting accessibility first. We aim to make digital spaces inclusive to everyone who comes across them. This includes but is not limited to ensuring that the site is compatible with screen readers, is navigable by keyboard, and has high colour contrast.

Additionally, we are fully committed to upholding the four principles of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), as outlined and enforced by the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). Our testing, which utilizes Lighthouse to measure success, reviews these standards, among many other benchmarks.

W3C WCAG 2.2 AA Guidelines

Perceivable

This principle emphasizes the user's ability to perceive the information and user interface with their available senses. Users may rely on visual, auditory, or tactile cues to access content. As such, we develop our projects to facilitate comprehension for all users, incorporating features such as alternative text, labels, captions, and headers. We also prioritize inclusive design by ensuring design elements are visible to a wide audience.

Operable

Many users utilize keyboards or assistive devices, such as screen recorders or voice recognition devices, to access websites. Our websites ensure full functionality via keyboard inputs, and we include clear indicators for users to track their location on a webpage for enhanced navigation. Moreover, we are aware of potential content-induced seizures or photosensitive reactions, and provide users with warnings or the ability to switch off animations if necessary.

Understandable

Crafting a user experience and creating content that is easily comprehensible to a wide-ranging audience is of utmost importance. When working with clients, we encourage the use of simplified language and avoidance of jargon or acronyms without defining their meaning. Ensuring website clarity involves implementing a consistent and predictable navigation system across multiple pages to prevent user disorientation or distraction.

Robust

We ensure a robust website through testing to confirm compatibility with various web browsers, assistive technologies, and other user agents. We meticulously examine all of our projects using screen readers, multiple devices, and keyboard navigation to guarantee a seamless experience for users with visual or physical limitations.

Ethical Web Collective

Accessibility is at the heart of the Ethical Web Collective, our commitment to building websites that contribute to an ethical and sustainable web. In addition to three other principles, accessibility and inclusion govern how we develop web projects and discuss user interfaces and experiences.
