After a busy 14 months of writing, documenting, and reviewing, we are extremely excited to share the news — Plank is officially a Certified B Corporation™ (B Corp™)! We are proud to be joining a movement alongside 5,400+ inspiring organizations across 84 countries and 157 industries, all working towards a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Based on the B Impact Assessment, Plank earned an overall score of 93.6. We only needed 80 to certify, and now we’re on the path to 100!

This certification is a testament to the past 24 years of continuous growth and improvement at Plank. Claiming B Corp Certification means that we are joining the ranks of the world’s most inspiring companies — those that meet high standards of verified social and environmental performance and are committed to using their business as a force for good.

Plank’s way of doing things has always been people-oriented. Our values are driven by people, for people. We always wanted to “do good” but now we want to strive to continually push ourselves to be better and put a little more action behind that. B Corp provides us with the framework to keep learning, growing, and improving, ensuring our values stay embedded in the company long-term.

I am thrilled that we have become a Certified B Corp, one of only ~5400 in the world, and I’m also humbled. Every company wants to say they do the right thing. Warren and I have believed that Plank was always to be a force for good, not driven at all costs by profit. We have strived for success, inclusivity, longevity, and value — to our employees, clients, community, and partners for 24 years. Having B Lab rigorously challenge us to prove that, and being able to successfully stand that test is an inspiring, motivational, and emotional thing.

Next Steps

The most important takeaway from this experience is that this is only the beginning for Plank. Going through the certification process, notably the rigorous B Impact Assessment, taught us a lot about our strengths and weaknesses in every area of our business, providing us with a long-term roadmap for sustainable change and improvement.

Society’s most pressing global challenges cannot be solved by government and nonprofits alone. As businesses, we have the ability — and responsibility — to make a significant change and work toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. There is more to running a business than financial probability, B Corps look at the triple bottom line — balancing people, profit, and the planet.

Although we have come a long way in using our business as a force for good, we know that there is still so much work to be done. We are grateful for this certification to now be able to work with and learn from the diverse B Corp community and inspire others to join us in the movement toward collective action.

As we approach our 25th anniversary, I’m proud to see that Plank has the capacity to change, evolve and become a better version of ourselves. By being certified as a B Corp, we now have a framework within which we will continue to make our company a stronger and more resilient team.

While we have a lot more to say about our excitement and sense of pride for this achievement, we will leave it here for now as we take the time to celebrate our team’s hard work. We will continue sharing about how we’re using our business as a force for good, remaining transparent and accountable to our commitments. To this end, we will be sharing Plank’s first ever annual Impact Report in the coming months. Thank you all for your support — we are excited to be on this journey together!
