EyeSteelFilm are a documentary collective based in Montreal. In 2020 they produced a podcast to coincide with the release of their film “Dope is Death” by Mia Donovan, and wanted us to create a standalone site to highlight the episodes in their own space.

Why this project was a success

  • 1

Embedded podcast players directly on the site for optimal user experience.

  • 2

Prioritized mobile-first design with clear navigation and improved content structure.

  • 3

Ensured high accessibility standards from a technical and design perspective.

Our design team used the existing film posters to create a clear simple one-page design. The site had to be easy to navigate for their user base regardless of demographic, as well as needing to meet web accessibility standards.

Plank wanted to create a site that was visually engaging in a small space but that presented all the information in an uncluttered view. We also needed the site to work well on mobile so ensured the layout would stack when viewed on a small screen.

The podcast was hosted externally but in order to keep the users on the Podcast site itself we embedded mini-players directly in the page – making the user go through minimal steps in order to listen to each episode.

We also made use of expanding blocks, so the user could just focus on the episode they wanted to listen to without being distracted by the others.
